How much does the Earth Cost?

Who is able to put a price on the Earth? Why would we want to do something like that? I think the answer to the second question is deep in the heart of capitalism, so that one is easy. How much does the Earth cost?

Dr. Greg Laughlin, who is now an astronomy professor at Yale University and did the math in 2020, says that Earth is worth about $5 quadrillion, which is $5,000,000,000,000. He set that price after figuring out the planet’s mass, temperature, age, and other things that have to do with its ability to support life.

How Much Does Earth Cost?

THIS IS HOW IT LOOKS IN NUMBERS:

$5,000,000,000,000,000.00

There are more zeros there than most of us will ever see in our lives. I think the number must be pretty big… They are, after all, adding up everything on Earth, including the land.

How Did They Decide The Price?

Perhaps the first person in the world to be a “planetary appraiser” is Greg Laughlin, who is an assistant professor of astronomy and astrophysics at the University of California.

Laughlin doesn’t think that these numbers will be useful in real life. He instead wants them to make people value the one home they have more. A huge, made-up price tag on something just for fun is something that other people have done before.

Can Anyone Sell or Buy the Earth?

No, that is the clear answer. Everyone on Earth has something important to offer, like land and water, which no one owns. It is against the rights of the people and other living things that live on Earth to buy or sell the whole thing.
